Three Springs is a mixed-use, high density housing development near Durango, Colorado on land owned by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
The exterior lighting was designed by Clanton and Associates to create a pleasant, safe and attractive neighborhood while minimizing the impact of lighting on the community and surrounding rural areas. Our design process involves local artists to create lighting monuments and bollards using reclaimed metals. The lighting within the monuments reveals the structure from within the woven wire mesh cladding, creating a wonderful effect that is appreciated when seen at a close proximity, but is understated when seen from afar. The stars are important to the religious beliefs of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and paying respect to their beliefs is crucial. Low impact lighting preserves the view of the stars by using low light levels and fully shielded luminaires.
